WWF Hong Kong : give the planet a happy and prosperous Chinese New Year

Chinese Lunar New Year is approaching and WWF Hong Kong ask all people to take time to think about our planet.

We cannot have a healthy, happy and prosperous year with a destabilized climate, depleted oceans and rivers, degraded land and empty forests.

So, there is a raccomandation: don't waste food.

Every single day, we send about 3,600 tonnes of food to landfill, over 30% of total municipal solid waste.

This means we’re buying and ordering more food than we can eat, and this is contributing to the strain on our natural resources that is threatening our environment.

The problem is not limited to Hong Kong. Globally, one-third of all produce goes to waste.

Prevent the food you have on your table from going to waste and ending up in a landfill. In the process, you will reduce the use of natural resources to produce food that is not eaten.

Remember to take home your celebration leftovers and save them for your next meal or a snack. Excess ingredients can be repurposed for upcoming meals. For example, meat from a lunch can be used in a dinner dish.
